5 Months Old...Seriously??

Tomorrow Katie will be five months old. I cannot believe it! The time has gone by so fast. My maternity leave is over and I have been back to work for 3 weeks already. It has been such an adjustment for me since I had gotten so spoiled by being at home with her 24/7 since we brought her home. A big thanks to everyone I work with for allowing me to be a bumbling idiot while I cried through the first few days back at work!!

Today I took Katie back to Clinic at Duke for her check-up with Dr. Benjamin and Dr. Malcolm. While we were waiting to be called back, we got to visit with CDH superstar and fellow Parker's House alum, Carter Myers. As you can see from the picture above, Katie was mesmerized by his smile and charm! You can read up on Carter's journey by visiting their link on the left side of this page.

Katie has made great strides in the last couple of months and her doctors were really impressed with her progress today. She now weighs 13 pounds, 5 ounces. Yeah! She has moved up to the 25% for weight and length, and is still in 75% for head circumference (of course...have you seen her daddy's head!). She is rolling all over the floor, propping on her knees and elbows, and even trying to sit up unasisted for a few seconds at the time. She is now meeting or exceeding all of her physical developmental milestones so her physical therapist is working toward discharge. Over the last few weeks, her reflux has been soooo much better and Dr. Benjamin feels like we can start the weaning process on some of those meds. Woohoo!!

Five months ago today I had no idea what was about to happen to my family. CDH was just some random diagnosis that I had heard of once during nursing school, and it meant nothing to me. Wow, what a difference a day makes!! Thanks again to everyone who has prayed for us and have followed our journey. We have certainly felt your support!
